Empowering Habesha Youth Through Soccer & Mentorship

Habesha Youth Soccer Association (HYSA) is more than a soccer program — it’s a community-building initiative designed to foster leadership, discipline, and unity. We help Ethiopian and Eritrean youth in the DMV thrive through competitive play, cultural pride, and academic success.

ABOUT HYSA

Empowering Youth Beyond the Game

Habesha Youth Soccer Association (HYSA) is a nonprofit based in the DMV area, founded to empower Ethiopian and Eritrean youth through sport. We are more than a team — we’re a family built on discipline, connection, and opportunity.

HYSA offers a space where young athletes can thrive, mentors can lead, and families can connect. Our programs promote character, cultural pride, and personal success — both on and off the field.

"At HYSA, every kick, every huddle, and every handshake is a step toward a stronger future."

Our Story

Rooted in Culture. Driven by Purpose.

Habesha Youth Soccer Association (HYSA) was born from a shared dream — to create a safe, empowering space for Ethiopian and Eritrean youth in the DMV area to grow through soccer, mentorship, and community.

What began as a local effort has grown into a movement. Our founders saw a need for connection, guidance, and opportunity — and they answered that call. Today, HYSA is more than a soccer program; it’s a cultural home, a leadership incubator, and a symbol of unity.

We are proud of our roots, and we’re even more excited about the future we’re building — one young leader at a time.

Sara M. Parent of Two Players

HYSA gave my kids more than just soccer—it gave them a second home. Every Saturday, they come back smiling, proud to be part of something rooted in our culture.

Nati w. Youth Participant

Before HYSA, I barely knew anyone who looked like me playing soccer. Now, I have friends, mentors, and a team that feels like family.

Yared A. Volunteer Coach

Mentoring with HYSA has been life-changing. It’s incredible to see these kids grow confident—not just on the field, but in who they are.

Ato Tesfaye Community Elder

HYSA is preserving more than sport—it’s preserving identity. I see our language, our values, and our unity passed on every time the children gather.
